Ever notice that some Romaine you buy is horrendously dirty?  Like double wash dirty… Eww

If you move the lettuce to the cutting board without draining some of the water off, it makes it hard to cut, not to mention hard to get it off your cutting board at the end.

I have discovered a way to let Romaine leaves drain some of that excess water off prior to chopping for salads.

I feel like a genius with this tip I’m about to share!

Lay a sheet pan cross-ways in your sink so it leans to one side. Then, you can layer the lettuce leaves out on it and the water will drain to the bottom of the pan.

If you are like me, you are probably doing a million and one things at a time while you’re in the kitchen. This method lets me do other things and then come back to the lettuce when I’m ready. The lettuce leaves stay on the pan continuously draining until you are ready to transfer them to the cutting board. When it’s time to move the leaves from the sheet pan to the cutting board, give them one more shake to make sure you are getting any water stuck in the folds of leafs off.

  • No standing water on your cutting board.
  • No water dripping off the side of your cutting board.
  • No puddles of water on your counter top.
  • Easy to cut Romaine leaves!

Your Salad Spinner will be able to make your lettuce much drier following this method, than if you were to put super wet newly washed chopped lettuce in it.  If you are prepping lettuce for the week like I do, keep in mind that…

The drier you can make your prepped lettuce, the longer it will stay fresh and look it’s best.

This method is Easy clean up to! Rinse and dry the pan and boom! Back in the cabinet until next time.
