There are certain dates in our lives that we remember because something memorable happened – good or bad.  They are dates that will be forever etched in our minds.

I will always remember April 3, 2017 as the exact day that I did something so HUGE that changed my life and my future in so many ways.  It’s a little overwhelming sometimes to look back now and realize that I had no earthly idea just how HUGE that date was going to be for me (and #KetoHusband).

At the time, it seemed a lot like…

okay, here’s another diet to try because I’d like to lose some weight and be healthier.

You know the line…  It’s the same line we’ve all told ourselves for years; every time we start another diet.  Blah Blah Blah.

This so called ‘diet’ turned out WAY better than I was ever expecting.

It makes me laugh sometimes in a silly “I just can’t believe it laugh”… My entire life leading up until now, I could have been eating more butter, been eating steak more often AND used real cream in my coffee?! … and I would have maintained a much more healthy weight.

Why don’t more people know about THIS?!

After all the research, and reading about how our bodies process the carbs we eat, I think about all the prior years of my life, and all the carbs that I made my body process… from childhood and into adulthood, I now know my body was like… WHAT the heck Amy?!

I can easily come up with a Top 5 for the ways that eating Keto Has Changed My Life.  I’m sharing my top 5 with you in hopes that you will see there are so many things in your life that can change, just because you decide to change your diet.

I’m going to start with #2 and save #1 until last because it’s actually a place.  A place where I never thought in a million years I’d be!

Top 5 Ways Eating Keto Changed My Life

#2 I eat way more GOOD food than I used to before switching to Keto

Before Keto, I can safely say that meat, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, corn, cornbread, fruit smoothies, pizza, cake, cookies (oh the list could go on and on)  were a regular part of my diet – up until Keto.

But now, I try to eat as many clean non-processed foods as time and budget allows.  While it’s not 100% clean 100% of the time, it’s pretty close. Plates are filled with meats and low carb vegetables with butter on them at meal time, and the recipes are made with food and spices versus a list of ingredients I couldn’t ever pronounce.

Come to find out that some of those ingredients I couldn’t pronounce were sugars.  I had no idea I was eating sugar!

Mostly grass-fed proteins and fats are what I strive for because they are are higher in omega-3 fatty acids.

#3 I’ve learned more about nutrition and how my body sees the food I eat.

I’ve learned how our bodies see the food we eat, and begun to understand how our bodies process the food we give it.  This journey has been so eye opening. I would encourage you to watch some videos on YouTube from Dr. Ford Brewer and Dr. Eric Berg.  They both share some amazing information!

For years I ate corn?!  It’s a vegetable right… yes but the reaction our body has to corn is an off the scale rise in blood sugar.  Ack!

Some of the vegetables that have amazing vitamins and minerals in them also cause our blood sugar to spike.  There are other alternatives to getting these vitamins and minerals. See my post on Green carbs.

#4 This is the 1st ‘diet’ I have stuck with this long AND for the 1st time in my life.

This is the 1st ‘diet’ that I have actually felt good doing! That’s probably one of the big reasons that I’m still eating a low carb keto diet.

Eating Keto is a lifestyle, not a diet.  It’s a way of life to be healthy and fight disease. Once you find Keto and understand the type of foods, and the amounts of macronutrients, your body was designed to process, it becomes a lifestyle that you can maintain – because you will want to!

#5  I have met totally amazing people and become inspired by what so many are doing.

When I started eating Keto it was a totally new idea for me.  It was actually unlearning everything I’d ever been taught about eating. And learning to trust in science and research.

Bucking the system is really what it was!

But I met these amazing people who were also taking the leap of faith that eating fat was really ok!  I started posting what I was eating on Instagram as a place for me to keep the things I was eating in some sort of order…  maybe it’s just me, but I can never find a photo on my phone when I need it! –Enter Instagram lol So anyway, I started posting these pictures of what I was eating and before I knew it, people were noticing and commenting and liking things.  Before I knew it, I had met an amazing amount of people who were also ‘bucking the system”!

**drum-roll**

#1 Food Does Not Control Me

Never in a million years did I ever think that I could stare at a bag of candy corn and not want to eat half the bag.

Never in a million years did I ever think that I could look at a cookies or some cake and not have this almost overwhelming feeling of wanting some.

Never in a million years did I ever think that food controlled me like it did.

I see now how eating one bite of cake leads to another bite of cake.  One cookie leads to another cookie. One candy corn leads to half the bag of candy corn.  You know how it goes…

Never in a million years would I have ever believed that I would be in a place where I control the food now.  It’s a wonderful place to be, and a very freeing feeling to have this control for the first time in my life!
