During a recent trip to my in-laws, I had some of the best baby back ribs I’ve had in a while. We just don’t make ribs that often. But ever since that trip, I have really been wanting to make some again. Today was the day!
#KetoHusband made some homemade BBQ sauce to spread on them when they were done and they were delicious!
My son gave these 8 out of 10 stars and my daughter said, “what are you crazy? These are a 10!” My son is a very picky eater and it totally made my day that he liked these! He had never even tried ribs until this day!
This is how I made the best Fall Off The Bone Baby Back Ribs in the oven. So simple and easy!
First, preheat your oven to 300 degrees. You will be cooking these ribs for 2 hours.
I used 2 slabs of ribs and cut them about in half so it would be easier to manage for both prepping them and cooking them on a baking sheet.
After cutting them, I removed the silver skin (that super thin white membrane on the underside). The easiest way I have found to do that is to start separating it at the end corner of the ribs with a little slice and shaving motion of the knife. Keep doing this motion until you have enough loose to be able to pull it off. I use a paper towel to pull it off because it makes a better grip to pull. Remember there will be a layer of fat. You want to leave the fat, you are just pulling off the membrane.
Next, I put each half slab on some aluminum foil with the intention of making pouches for the ribs to bake in, and then sprinkled the spice mixture on the underside and top side of each of the slabs. I used all the mixture for the 4 half slabs I had.
Spice Mixture
- 1 tbsp Onion Powder
- 1 tbsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
If you haven’t already placed the foil with the slabs of ribs onto a baking sheet, this would be a good time to do so– just in case the liquid escapes during the next step.
Wrap the slabs in an aluminum foil pouch and leave open one end. Next, pour a splash of white vinegar in the end of each foil pouch. I would say a splash is about 1/4 cup. After you pour the white vinegar into the pouches, seal the ends of each pouch by folding them upwards and pinch them to make sure they close tightly. This vinegar will make your ribs truly Fall Off The Bone.
After you have closed up all of your foil pouches it’s time to put them in the oven.
I have found that 300 degrees for 2 hours does the best for us.
Keep in mind that since there isn’t any BBQ sauce on them prior to cooking they will be lighter in color when you open the pouches. If you prefer to add sauce to them prior to cooking, then by all means do so!
Before serving just add some of your favorite BBQ sauce or the one here that #KetoHusband came up with.
Just and FYI about BBQ Sauces —
One of the issues with store bought BBQ sauces is that they are usually loaded with sugar, and the sugar free ones use a sugar substitute that we try to stay away from like aspartame or sucrolose. So #KetoHusband came up with a recipe that is both delicious and sweetened with stevia. You can check it out here.
